Natural gas is expected to continue to play an important role in the energy supply of Germany and Europe in the coming years. At the same time, we are exploring new technologies and energy sources and assessing their potential for the future development of energy storage and energy systems.

Our activities in the area of Green Products and Future fields help to achieve Sustainable development goals 7, 9, 12, and 13.
Security of supply in Germany
As a storage operator, we provide 31 TWh of working gas volume in storage facilities across Germany.
We ensure that the technical processes involved in gas storage are safe, reliable and efficient. This is underpinned by high standards in operations, environmental protection, energy efficiency and health and safety at work. Our Integrated Management System is certified in these areas by TÜV Nord CERT.
Furthermore, we implement measures to reduce operational emissions and participate in research and development projects addressing future requirements for energy storage.
Emissions reduction and hydrogen projects
We invest in technical facilities that contribute to more efficient energy use and can reduce operational emissions.
Furthermore, we are involved in projects centred on hydrogen. For example, we are participating in the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park, a real-world laboratory for the energy transition. There, the production of hydrogen from renewable energies, large-scale electrolysis, transport and utilisation under industrial conditions are being tested and further developed.
Resource Use & Waste Management
When it comes to materials and resources, we adhere to the principles of the circular economy. Unavoidable waste is, of course, sent for appropriate recycling or disposal. By efficiently controlling our compressors, we minimise the use of resources for storage and retrieval.
Wherever possible, we also give preference to regional providers when selecting service providers and suppliers. In this way, we strengthen regional value creation and promote short supply chains in our collaborations.
Products in the bio-natural gas sector
Some parts of our product range enable the use of bio-natural gas. In concrete terms, this means that our customers can either store bio-natural gas with us or even meet the energy requirements for injecting and withdrawing gas from underground storage facilities using energy derived entirely from bio-natural gas.

Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park
The storage facility will be created at our existing Bad Lauchstädt location in Saxony Anhalt. Initially, operations will be limited to a testing and research capacity.
Alongside this storage facility, a separate project including a wind farm and accompanying large scale electrolysis at a capacity of 30 MW is planned. This will mean that the caverns are supplied directly with green hydrogen. The project is establishing itself as an important column of the potential real-world laboratory taking form in the HYPOS region.
