Powerful Duo: UGS Bad Lauchstädt

The Bad Lauchstädt Storage Facility is an especially effective combination of several types of storage: the neighboring caverns and depleted reservoirs are both operated using shared aboveground technical systems. The facilities can be used to both cover seasonal fluctuations as well as peaks in consumer demand.

Highly flexible and modern: UGS Katharina

Erdgasspeicher Peissen GmbH (EPG) was founded in 2009 as a project and operating company for the construction and operation of the underground gas storage facility Katharina in Peißen, a district of Bernburg. Since November 2023, EPG has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of VNG Gasspeicher GmbH. The newly constructed Katharina underground gas storage facility offers a highly flexible service profile and is one of the most modern gas storage facilities in Germany. When it is completed in 2026, the Katharina underground gas storage facility will provide almost 7 TWh of natural gas storage capacity in cavern storage facilities. VGS acts as a service provider and markets the capacity on behalf of EPG.
